174~HELP! I'm a Mom Who's Trying to Be In Control with Sheena Heinrichs
This week on The Mom Show, I’m joined by Sheena Heinrichs. A teacher, writer, and mom of four who vulnerably shares her journey of parenting from a place of fear, control, and performance, and how God gently led her into freedom.
After growing up in a broken and abusive home, Sheena was determined to build a perfect Christian family. But in her efforts to hold everything together and do it “right,” she nearly lost herself — physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Through burnout, surrender, and the grace of the gospel, Sheena discovered the healing that comes when we stop trying to play God in our children’s lives and begin trusting Him to do what only He can do.
Whether you’re raising toddlers or learning how to love your adult children well, Sheena’s story will remind you that the pressure is off — and the gospel is for you too, mama.
IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:
How Sheena’s childhood impacted the way she parented
Why trying to be the “perfect Christian mom” led to burnout
The danger of building your identity on your child’s behavior
How God began to untangle her striving and shame
SCRIPTURE SHEENA SHARES:
“I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.”
— Psalm 34:4–5 (NIV)
